Johnny Depp Moves To Court Of Appeal In London To Overturn 'Wife-Beater' Ruling In Libel Case - REPORTS
As reported by AFP, Pirates of Caribbean actor has moved to the Court of Appeal in London to overturn a ruling stating that he beat up his ex-wife Amber Heard several times
Pirates of Caribbean actor, Johnny Depp, filed a libel case against publishers of The Sun newspaper for claiming that he was a 'wife-beater'. The article that published in 2018 labelled him as a 'wife-beater'. Much to his dismay, the court gave out its ruling against him. The Judge reportedly ordered him to pay News Group Newspapers £628,000 in legal costs. The actor has now moved to the Court of Appeal in London to overturn the 'wife-beater' ruling.
As reported by AFP, the court documents revealed that Johnny Depp has moved to Court of Appeal after Judge Andrew Nicol refused him grounds to appeal. The actor had time till December 7 to make the appeal. His application is reportedly listed in the list of pending cases.
After the UK court gave out the ruling against the actor, he tendered his resignation from Warner Bros' upcoming film Fantastic Beast. He shared his official statement on social media that read, "In light of recent events, I would like to make the following short statement. Firstly, I’d like to thank everybody who has gifted me with their support and loyalty. I have been humbled and moved by your many messages of love and concern, particularly over the last few days. Secondly, I wish to let you know that I have been asked to resign by Warner Bros. from my role as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts and I have respected and agreed to that request. Finally, I wish to say this. The surreal judgement of the court in the U.K. will not change my right to tell the truth and I confirm that I plan to appeal. My resolve remains strong and I intend to prove that the allegations against me are false. My life and career will not be defined by this moment in time. Thank you for reading. Sincerely, Johnny Depp.” (Also Read: Johnny Depp Resigns From Warner Bros; Fans Trend #JusticeForJohnnyDepp And DEMAND Sacking Of Amber Heard From Aquaman)
